Black Bean Hummus

Garbanzo and Black Bean Hummus

Garbanzo Hummus


1 15 ounce can garbanzo beans (or 2 cups homecooked garbanzo beans)

¼ cup fresh lemon juice

¼ cup tahini

2-4 cloves of garlic- minced

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon cumin- optional


Place all ingredients in blender and pulse until it achieves desired texture.


Black Bean Hummus- 


2 cups cooked black beans (you can use canned- about 15 ounce can)

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2-4 cloves of garlic, minced (depending of how much your family loves garlic- this is such a great way of giving your kids the benefits of raw garlic without a fight)

1/4 fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon salt

Variation 1: 1/3 cup tahini

Variation 2: 1/3 cup plain greek yogurt

Variation 3: 3 tablespoons tahini and 3 tablespoons plain greek yogurt



  • Place all ingredients into a high powered blender and pulse until you achieve your desired texture.
  • Garnish with any of the following; scallions, a drizzling of olive oil, smoked paprika (my favorite), crushed red peppers or sesame seeds

Serve with lots of fresh raw vegetables and healthy crackers or chips
